Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a backyard pool in Quiogue early Sunday morning, Southampton Town Police said.
Efrain Suruy, a resident of Westhampton Beach described as being in his mid 20s, died in the swimming pool on Montauk Highway on August 5. According to police, they responded to the residence at approximately 6 a.m. after Mr. Suruy’s body was discovered in the pool. It is believed that he drowned.
A press release sent out by Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa on Tuesday, notes that detectives are “still investigating the drowning and still awaiting the medical examiner’s results to confirm any contributing factors to his death.”
Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers and members of the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance corps declared Mr. Suruy dead. Southampton Town Police detectives and members of the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office responded to the scene.
It is unclear if Mr. Suruy knew the residents of the Quiogue home where the pool was located. The investigation is ongoing.
