Marcie Angel of Remsenburg, a devoted wife, loving mother, and loyal friend and colleague died on September 22, 2017, two months after being diagnosed with brain cancer. She was 65.
Ms. Angel was born on December 22, 1951, to Helen (Oretskin) and Milton Goldstein, the youngest of their three children and the only girl. From her father, she developed a lifelong passion for sports, inheriting a love of his favorite teams: the New York Yankees and Giants. Growing up surrounded by cousins, she was known for entertaining family with songs from Broadway and movie musicals.
She attended Cornell University in Ithaca, where she was an early childhood development major. While there she met Stephen Angel, the love of her life. For their first date, she asked Stephen to a Cornell football game. They were married in 1975, and moved to Riverhead, where Stephen was starting his law practice. In 1980, they settled in a three-story Victorian farmhouse in Remsenburg where she has since resided. The following year she gave birth to her first child, Amanda, and in 1983 a second daughter, Anna, was born.
While raising both girls, Ms. Angel successfully pursued a master’s degree in computer science at Stony Brook, one of her three master’s degrees. It proved useful when she took a position at Amangansett School as a computer teacher in 1991. She later transitioned to a position as the school librarian—a job she considered among the best in her profession—until she retired in June 2014.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing golf in the early mornings at Indian Island Golf Course, going to the Metropolitan Opera and opera houses around the world with her husband, and visiting her family throughout the country.
In addition to her husband and daughters, she is survived by two brothers, David Grayson of Phoenix and Gary Grayson of Walton, New York; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Visitation was at Werner & Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A memorial service was scheduled for September 27 at the Remsenburg Community Church.
Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice, Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978, eeh.org.
