Margaret A. Maloney

Margaret “Marge” A. Maloney died at her home in Hampton Bays on November 29. She was 84.

She had been married to Ronald J. “Bud” Maloney for 63 years at the time of Mr. Maloney’s death in 2008. She and her husband worked together for several years at the R. J. Maloney Insurance Agency in Jericho. In 1965, when they moved to Hampton Bays, they established the Maloney and Maloney Ins. Co. which today is led by their son. The couple also started Shinnecock Hardware in Hampton Bays and Shinnecock East (Tuckahoe) Hardware in Southampton, both of which are now managed by two of their sons.

Ms. Maloney enjoyed having her large family close by and her home was her castle. She loved the company of her children and grandchildren at any time, survivors said.

She is survived by her five children, Ronald Maloney and his wife Nancy, John Maloney and his wife Trish, Robert Maloney and his wife Jane, Susan Fennelly and her husband Timothy, Kathy Walsh, and Thomas Maloney and his wife Jeannie, all of Hampton Bays; 19 grandchildren, Mark, Carrolyn, and Jennifer Phillips, Katie Celi and her husband David, Laura and Kenzie Maloney, David Maloney and his wife Lisa, Michael Maloney, Joseph Maloney and his wife Jamie Maloney, Timothy Fennelly and his wife Michelle, Christopher Fennelly and his wife Kristen, Kimberly Clemensen and her husband Lars, David Steers, Michael Walsh, Ryan Walsh, Allison Walsh and William Walsh, and Jackie and Thomas Maloney. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Dylan Maloney, Addison and Avery Celi, Reilly Maloney and Olivia Walsh; a sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Michael Hessler, of Montauk and Florida.

The family received friends at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Monday, December 3; clergy of the Church of St. Rosalie officiated at a parish prayer service in the evening. A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, December 4, at 10:30 a.m. Her ashes will be buried alongside her husband at Good Ground Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice, Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978.

North Haven's Ballot

North Haven is a small village with remarkable energy, a deeply engaged electorate, and a government that is active and passionate about the 2.7-square-mile peninsula they call home. In recent years, it has been a political hotbed of sorts, and its elections are almost always contested — and interesting. This year is no exception. Two seats on the Village Board are up next Tuesday, June 17, and there are three candidates: incumbents Terie Diat and Peter Boody, and challenger Max Rohn. At a virtual debate on June 4, they didn’t disappoint — the three engaged in a substantive discussion aimed ... by Editorial Board

Preparation Saves Lives

An email to constituents last week contained an important message: As we start the 2025 hurricane season, it’s important to be prepared. The note, from U.S. Representative Nick LaLota, included contact information for a variety of important resources: the National Hurricane Center, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Federal Emergency Management Agency. “As a lifelong Long Islander and your representative in Congress,” LaLota wrote, “I’ve seen how storms like Gloria, Bob, Irene and Sandy can devastate our communities. Preparation saves lives.” He’s absolutely right, on all counts. Except one. LaLota supports domestic funding legislation, and an administration in Washington, ... by Editorial Board
