Margaret Jean Gruen

Former longtime Remsenburg resident Jean Gruen of East Moriches died at her home on Tuesday, April 28. She was 80.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, to Margaret and Arnold Amman, she moved with her family back to their native Switzerland in her childhood. Returning to the United States when she was 21, she married Carl Gruen in 1955 and the couple built their home in Remsenburg in 1960. According to her family, she felt privileged to call Remsenburg and the East End her home.

In addition to her husband, Carl Gruen, Mrs. Gruen is survived by two sisters, Vera Amman and Trudy Underwood; and two brothers, Werner and Sigfried Amman.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, at 3 p.m. at the Remsenburg Community Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978-7048 or the North Fork Animal Welfare League, P.O. Box 297, Southold, NY 11971 would be appreciated by the family.
