Margaret Saladino of Southampton died of natural causes on July 22 at her home. She was 77.

The only child of John and Susan Neary, she was born in New York City and raised in Southold, where she attended Southold High School. Upon graduation, she attended Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn and became a registered nurse.

During her time at nursing school, she met and married Jim Saladino.

The couple moved to Southampton and Mrs. Saladino worked as a nurse at Southampton Hospital for 34 years. An active member of the American Cancer Society for many years, she worked with Reach to Recovery and the Breast Health Center of Southampton Hospital.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and cooking gourmet meals for friends and family. Survivors said last week that she was a loving mother, wife and grandmother who will be missed by all.

Mrs. Saladino is survived by two sons, James Saladino and his wife Elaine of Quogue, and Mark Saladino of Hampton Bays; two daughters, Patricia Zaloga of Hampton Bays and Carol Saladino of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, Lisa and Edmund Zaloga, Holly Saladino, and Michael and Kalin Hammond.

She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Jim Saladino, in February 2006.

The family received visitors at O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton on July 23 and July 24. Funeral services, accompanied by Irish bagpipes, were held on July 25 at Sacred Hearts Church in Southampton. Interment followed at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Southold.

In lieu of flowers, donations to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 and Ellen’s Run, 130 West 42nd Street, 22nd Floor, New York, NY 10036 would be appreciated by the family.
