Maria Marcune Of Southampton Dies July 24

Maria (D’Agostino) Marcune died July 24 in Southampton. She was 95.

Ms. Marcune was born in Manhattan on October 18, 1920, to Josephine and Vincent D’Agostino. She served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. Soon after her discharge she entered beauty school where she met and married Benjamin Marcune and together they owned and operated Ben-Mar Beauty Salon in Brooklyn for nine years. After moving to Queens, she continued to work in the beauty industry until her retirement in 1983. The couple retired to their home in Southampton that they built as a summer residence in 1956.

She is survived by three children, Janet Chandler of Southampton, Patricia Zelinski of Southampton and Benjamin Marcune Jr. of New Jersey; four grandchildren, Jason Chandler, David Zelinski, Elizabeth Zelinski Alba and Victoria Marcune; and six great-grandchildren, Emma and Max Chandler, Kate and Drew Zelinski and Delfina and Maximo Alba; and a sister, Juliet D’Aferio. She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Marcune; four sisters; and five brothers.

Visitation was at O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton on July 26. Burial with military honors was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Patricia C. Farrell of Sag Harbor died on November 17 on Quioque. She was 92. A visitation will take place on Friday, November 21, from 3-7 p.m. at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sag Harbor. I read with deep attention to detail the almost full-page story on the lack of parking during the busy summer months in Westhampton Beach [“Westhampton Beach Village Board Exploring Paid Parking Options,” 27east.com, November 10].
