Marian Ashman Of Shinnecock Indian Nation Dies At Age

Marian M. Ashman

Marian Myrtle Ashman of the Shinnecock Indian Nation died on December 8 at the Hamptons Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton. She was 86.

Born September 16, 1924, she was the eighth of nine children born to Arthur and Augusta Ashman. She resided in Bridgehampton most her life until moving home to the Shinnecock Indian Reservation several years ago.

A devoted member of the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, she loved the Bridgehampton High School Killer Bees basketball teams and, according to family, was “the number one Yankee fan.”

She is survived by a sister, Helen A. Pitts of Missouri, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, and other family and friends, including her Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church family.

A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced. Arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
