Marie A. Terrell Of Westhampton Dies September 1

Marie A. Terrell, a lifelong resident of Westhampton, died at home on September 1, 2017. She was 93.

Born on July 21, 1924, she was the daughter of Anna and William Afterman. She grew up, with her siblings—Catherine, Elizabeth, Henry, Helen and Barbara—on Oneck Lane in Westhampton Beach, where her parents were the caretakers of the Geer-Parker estate.

A 1945 graduate of the Long Island College Hospital of Nursing in Brooklyn, she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in health education from SUNY Oneonta. She worked as a registered nurse at various hospitals including Central Suffolk (now Peconic Bay Medical Center), Southampton Hospital and Brookhaven Hospital. In addition, she was a longtime employee of Dr. John Rodgers of Moriches Medical Group, and a health educator at Westhampton Beach High School, retiring in 1978.

During her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, reading, golf, playing bridge, and spending time with her granddaughters.

Predeceased by her husband, Ralph H. Terrell, she is survived by a son, Ralph H. Terrell II and wife Kathleen; granddaughters, Caitlin and Kelsey, a sister, Barbara Massari; a niece, Jean Harris; and nephews, William McPherson and Joseph Schwartz.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach.
