Marie Weber Of East Hampton Dies October 25

Marie Edwards Weber, a lifelong resident of East Hampton, died in her sleep on October 25, 2018, at the Westhampton Care Center. She was 83.

Mrs. Weber was born May 14, 1935, to Gerald Field and Clara Betkin Field. A graduate of East Hampton High School, she and her husband, Gilbert, were one of the first to build on North West Landing Road. She loved working in their garden and being on or near the water whenever they could, especially to enjoy clamming, fishing, and boating. She was an adept opener of scallops, bushel after bushel, piled high on the kitchen table.

She was one of the first graduates of Southampton Nursing School, and later worked as a registered nurse at Southampton Hospital. She also worked at Hunting Lane Nursing Home in the 1970s. She was active in the East Hampton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the group’s marching drill team.

Survivors said, she loved making bread-and-butter pickles and clam chowder, often requested by her friends. They added that nothing made her happier than spending time with her husband and kids.

Mrs. Weber is survived by her husband, Gilbert A. Weber; her children, Barbara Young of Hampton Bays, Gilbert Weber of Florida, William Weber of Connecticut, Thomas Weber of Flanders, and Tim Weber of East Hampton; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her youngest son, Jim, and her eldest daughter, Geraldine.

Her ashes will be dispersed at a later date on Gardiners Bay.
