Marilyn “Maggie” Hammond of Sag Harbor died on May 24 at Branford Hospice in Branford, Connecticut. She was 78.
Born 1931 in The Bronx, she graduated from Monrovian High School in 1949. After living in Europe and then New York City, she moved to Sag Harbor in 1989 and lived there for the next 20 years.
According to family and friends, she will be fondly remembered as someone who devoted her life to making the world a better place. From her countless years of volunteering at various AIDS Project organizations, to her activism in the local Sag Harbor government, she was known for always thinking of others before she thought of herself.
She is survived by a daughter, Alix Hammond, and two grandchildren, Zachary and Ann Domin. all of North Branford, Connecticut.
A memorial celebration will be held on Sunday, June 7, at noon, at the home of Christiane Neuville, 50 Harrison Street, Sag Harbor. In lieu of flowers, contributions to AIDS Project New Haven, 1302 Chapel Street, New Haven, Connecticut 06511 would be appreciated by the family.
