Christian Duggal and Jeorgiana Gavalas led the Southampton boys and girls cross country teams at the Division Championships at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park on October 24.

The Southampton boys placed second in League VII behind Shoreham-Wading River and qualified to compete in the Division IV Championship race. Duggal, a junior, finished fifth in the division in 17:57.30. Tanner Marro, another junior, was the next Mariner in at 18:27.50, which placed him ninth. Jake Cook, another junior, finished 17th in 19:30.70, junior Jacob Warden finished right behind him at 19:34.90, and sophomore Liam Lavinio finished 21st in 20:41.70.

Even though the Southampton girls did not compete in the girls Division IV Championship race last week, Gavalas was able to participate due to her times from throughout the season. The senior finished fourth in the division in 21:13.30. Her teammates ran in the team qualifier race. Lili Telvi, a junior, and Hayden Gilmartin, a sophomore, finished 32nd and 33rd, respectively, in that race in 25:21.70, and 25:21.90. Sophomore Riley Moredock crossed the finish line in 27:49.

Duggal, Marro and Gavalas earned All-Division honors for their efforts.

The Mariners will be at the Section XI Championships, also known as the state qualifier, this Friday, November 3, at Sunken Meadow.
