Martha Victoria Siedlecki died on March 31, 2017, in her home in Southampton. She was 94.
Born on June 7, 1922, in Southampton to Waclaw and Jozefa Stachecki, she was one of nine children.
Mrs. Siedlecki was an active member of Our Lady of Poland Catholic Church, where she was baptized, received her first Holy Communion, was confirmed and married. Raised in a traditional Polish home environment, she became fluent in both Polish and English and, as a teenager, enjoyed teaching religious education to both English- and Polish-speaking children. In addition to raising a family, she worked as a chef at the Southampton Polish Hall and was a longtime receptionist for Southampton allergist Russell Cancellieri. Very proud of her Polish heritage, she immersed her family in the many traditions cherished by the Polish community of Southampton.
At Our Lady of Poland, Mrs. Siedlecki was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society and has been recognized for her contributions to both the church and the Southampton community. She received a Certificate of Deep Appreciation from the Southampton Historical Museum for her Southampton heritage and community contributions and was recently presented with the St. Agnes Medal of Service for a lifetime of support to the Rockville diocese.
She is survived by four children, Patricia Dwyer and husband Douglas, Marcia Zuhoski and husband Charles, Theodore Siedlecki and life-partner Aaron Teel, and James Siedlecki and wife Marilyn Quinn, a sister, Anelia; a brother, Joseph; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was married to Theodore for over 71 years before he died in 2013 at the age of 95.
Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice or Our Lady of Poland Church.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.
