Mary Ellen Kociszewski of Southampton died on February 17. She was 95.

She was born at Southampton Hospital on May 19, 1927, to Mary and William Gaines. She had two brothers, Christopher and William, and one sister Sarah (Sally) Clarke.

She worked at Southampton Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Bogdan (Bobby) Kociszewski. They were married at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church on August 10, 1948, and remained married until his death in 2000.

The couple worked side by side at Southampton Restaurant, better known as BK’s, on Elm Street. She was well known for her delicious desserts, such as angel food cake, lemon chiffon, cherry cheesecake, brownies, and pistachio cake.

She was predeceased by her sister Sally; brothers William and Christopher; sisters-in-law, Patricia Gaines and Clara Barsczski; and brothers-in-law, Henry (Hank) Clarke and Peter Barsczski.

She is survived by her five children, Camellia Gallow, Patricia Berkoski, Bogdan (Bobby) Kociszewski, Marjorie Grefe, and Mary Ellen Beirne; daughter-in-law Teresa Kociszewski; and sons-in-law Michael Gallow and Gerald Beirne; 10 grandchildren, Tracy Kociszewksi, Keith Greene (deceased), Vanessa Nielsen, Ryan Kociszewski, Kevin Greene, Craig Berkoski, Bryan Gallow, Shaun Gallow, Kristen Gallow and Jacqueline Beirne, and their spouses, Kate Berkoski, Kristin Greene, Dean Nielsen, Jennifer Gallow, Carolyn Kociszewski, Robin Greene, and Bridgette Coughlin. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Avery Greene, Aiden Greene, Evelyn Berkoski, Karleigh Gallow, Keith Greene, Hazel Greene, Garrison Nielsen, Eoin Gallow, Catherine Beirne, Kieran Gallow, and Victoria Nielsen; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A wake will be held at O’Connell Rothwell Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 22, from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, February 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton.
