Mary Jo Condren, a longtime resident of New York, Southampton and Palm Beach, died peacefully on January 27 in Rye, New York. She was 83.
She was born on August 28, 1940, in Brooklyn, to Anthony and Josephine Marra. Her family later moved to Brookville, where she resided until her marriage to William J. Condren in 1969. In 2013, she moved to The Osborn in Rye, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother who will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and sense of fun. She found joy in being a homemaker, dedicating her life to creating a comfortable and nurturing environment for family and friends.
She was an active person, who in her free time enjoyed many activities including golf, tennis, water sports, horseback riding, gardening, reading and travel. As a natural competitor who welcomed challenges, these pursuits were the source of many friendships and much happiness over the years, her family said.
She was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by her children, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Colin; and her grandchildren, Liam, Brooke, Camille, and Amelia.
The O’Connell-Rothwell funeral home in Southampton is assisting the family with arrangements. A funeral Mass will be held at the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary on Wednesday, February 7, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (alzfdn.org) in her memory.
