Southampton native Mary (née Sakowicz) Miller died on November 27. She was 103.
Born on August 14, 1905, in Southampton, she attended both grammar and high school in Southampton and grew up on Prospect Street.
Mrs. Miller worked as a librarian at the Rogers Memorial Library on Jobs Lane for about 20 years. In 1939, she married Richard Miller, also of Southampton, and the couple moved to Valley Stream where they joined the congregation of Holy Name of Mary Church and were members of the Peninsula Golf Club in Massapequa. Mrs. Miller was also a member of the Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Predeceased by her husband, Richard Miller, and a son, Harold Miller, she is survived by a daughter, Maryann Roberts of New Jersey, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Hearts Church in Southampton, with Father Stanley Kondeja officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
