Three “Pillars of Our Community” were honored at the recent “friendraiser” hosted by Ma’s House, which is dedicated to fostering BIPOC creativity through residencies, education, cultural programs, and preserving Shinnecock heritage on the Shinnecock Reservation. Lisa Goree, chair of the Shinnecock National Tribal Council and Southampton Town Assessor; Anthony Madonna, Guild Hall’s Patti Kenner Director of Learning and New Works; and retiring New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele Jr. were all recognized for championing “connections within our local community while uplifting BIPOC voices within the Hamptons and beyond.”
The event also recognized the organization’s Community Partners: the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center, The Church Sag Harbor, Eastville Community Historical Society, Guild Hall, Hamptons Community Outreach, OLA of Eastern Long Island, Peconic Land Trust, Plain Sight Project, Shinnecock Kelp Farmers, Southampton African American Museum, Southampton History Museum, Sylvester Manor and The Watermill Center.
Over the course of the evening, guests enjoyed musical performances by Matt Hunter, Jeffrey Pegram, and The Thunderbird Sisters (represented by Rebecca Genia and Holly Haile Thompson), catering by Union Square Hospitality, wine by Channing Daughters Winery, and beer by Kidd Squid Brewing Co. at the Canoe Place Inn.
