Maureen T. Pollack of Center Moriches died on September 25 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 80.

Pollack was the eldest daughter of Edmund and Catherine (King) Pavlak. She attended Westhampton Beach schools from kindergarten through graduation from high school in 1961.

After graduating, she worked at the Suffolk County Treasurer’s office in Riverhead until she married Kenny Williams of Eastport. She had two children with Williams before the marriage ended in divorce.

She returned to Westhampton and resumed working for Suffolk County. She married John Pollack in 1972. She had a third child and was a stay-at-home mom for several years. Her second marriage ended in divorce.

She eventually began working for the Shoreham-Wading River Library (now North Shore Library) and was the audio-visual clerk there when she retired in 2006.

With her children grown, she became an avid traveler, reconnecting with the Irish side of her family. She traveled to China, Russia, Europe, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland many times to visit family.

In 2005, she relocated to the Holiday Beach community in Center Moriches. She volunteered in fundraising for their annual yard sale and Victorian Tea to benefit the restoration of the Masury Estate Ballroom, Holiday Beach’s social center. Gardening was a passion for her. In 2011, she reimagined the remembrance garden at the Masury and with garden club members restructured it. She was a long-time member of the Moriches Bay Gardening Club, serving as its president in 2020-2021. The club held flower shows at the Masury, with photos featured in local newspapers. She also wrote a monthly article on gardening for a local publication.

She worked in her son Robert’s fishing business, selling his catch weekends at the local Westhampton Farmer’s Market for the last 16 summers.

She was predeceased by her parents and her ex-husband John Pollack. She is survived by her siblings, Edmund of Speonk, Judy Kane (Jim) of Milford, New York, Cathy Pavlak of Westhampton, and Christine Washick of Punta Gorda, Florida; her children, Theresa Pellecchia (Nick) of Ridge, Robert Williams (Christine) of Eastport, Alan Pollack (Alison) of Center Moriches; her grandchildren Michael (Mandi) Pellecchia, Paul Pellecchia, Everett Williams, and Wyatt Williams; and her great-granddaughter Gianna Pellecchia.

Services were held at Moloney’s Sinnicksons Funeral Home in Center Moriches. Interment of her ashes will be private at a later date.

⭐️ : To Cami Hatch, for reminding everyone why learning to swim and lifeguard training are important. The East Hampton graduate, now a University of Tennessee student, has been studying in Italy and was visiting Malta recently when she heard a fellow beachgoer whistling. “That whistle unlocked a new mode in my brain. For lifeguards, when you hear a whistle it means, ‘Heads up — get ready to go,’ as Big John and Johnny Ryan have instilled in us over the years,” she said, shouting out her lifeguard instructors. She dove in and saved a foundering Englishman, who was in ... by Editorial Board
