Maureen Walther of Waynesville, North Carolina, formerly of Eastport, died at home on December 24. She was 76.
A native of The Bronx, she was a resident of Eastport before retiring to North Carolina. She worked as a teacher for many years before becoming a probation officer for Suffolk County.
Mrs. Walther is survived by her husband of 48 years, Kenneth Walther of Waynesville; a daughter, Kristen Walther of Queens; a son, Andrew Walther and his wife Kim of Center Moriches; a brother, William Meehan of Queens; and three grandchildren, Jordan, Christopher and Layne.
A private cremation was held, and a memorial service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, North Carolina 28721, or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
