Melanie Brawn Mineo of Westhampton died on February 10. She was 66.
Ms. Mineo was born on July 11th, 1954, in Dexter, Maine, to Kenneth and Josephine Brawn. She received her bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University and a master’s degree from Saybrook University.
Ms. Mineo had a passion for philosophy and the arts. She made a career of teaching students at Dowling College and has works published. Her emotional depth and ability to express her love and compassion for humanity was admired by anyone who met her, according to her family, who noted that she believed that the love you put out into the world is recognized by the universe and comes back full circle. She spent a lifetime sharing that belief by welcoming everyone into her life, learning to understand them and treating them as family. Her laugh was both distinct and contagious and could be picked out from a room full of people, her family recalled.
She survived by her husband Thomas Mineo and her son Zenon Mineo, whom, according to family, she always expressed were her greatest joy in life.
