Michael Charles Guldi Of Southampton Dies July 24

author on Jul 30, 2013

Michael Charles Guldi of Southampton died at Southampton Hospital on July 24 after a long illness. He was 56.

Born in Southampton on February 15, 1957, he attended Tuckahoe Elementary School, Southampton High School and Mercy High School in Riverhead. He graduated from Southern Oregon College in Medford, Oregon, with a bachelor’s degree in English and physics in 1983. He was president and owner of Spectrum Electrical Contractors, Inc.

Mr. Guldi’s family said he had many friends and thoroughly enjoyed having company in his home. He listened to their stories and plights and would do anything he could to help, his family said, adding that he did not consider a person’s position in life, but “truly believed in the spirit in each of us to overcome.”

He liked puzzles and was a “master armchair warrior” when it came to the television game show “Jeopardy.” Everyone knew better than to call him while it was airing, his family said. He loved golf, boating, fishing, cooking, writing poetry and reading.

Mr. Guldi was also involved with theater. In 2004 he appeared in the stage play, “The Suicide Angel,” and he co-produced “Break None of His Bones” as part of the Midtown International Theater, which debuted this month. Both plays were written by his longtime friend Joanne DeSimone.

At the hospital, he was called “Medical Miracle Michael,” survivors said, because he lived beyond most medical expectations.

Mr. Guldi is survived by his three sisters, Christine Nikolich and husband Robert, Karen Fink, and Joanne Liehr; three nephews, Edward Oakes and wife Crystal, who live in Hampton Bays, Andrew Oakes and wife Melissa of Pine Bush, and Marcus Fink and wife Shana and their children, Hanna, Indya, Bella and Kaleb Fink, all of Riverhead. He is also survived by two nieces, Farran and Erica Liehr.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Mary Guldi, in 1991 and 2012, respectively.

The family received friends at O’Connell Funeral Home on July 30.

Memorial donations may be made to Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, 1232 North Sea Road, Southampton, NY 11968.

All local stories matter. They matter to some portion of readers, and they certainly matter to the journalists sharing them. But there’s always an article that hits home a little more than others. Bill Sutton, who is the managing editor of The Express News Group, was never comfortable being in the pages of our newspapers. But he agreed, because his story is so important — and can help so many others — because he needs a donor kidney. He’s not alone: There are some 100,000 people in the United States alone who need life-saving organ donations. It’s testament to modern ... 4 Jun 2025 by Editorial Board

A Place To Play

Shinnecock Hills and Tuckahoe make up a mecca for golfers, with four world-class golf courses shoulder to shoulder: Shinnecock Hills, the National Golf Links of America, Sebonack and Southampton. Sebonack is the new kid on the block, opened in 2006 and designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak, but it’s already developed an international reputation, hosted a Women’s U.S. Open and made the list of the nation’s 100 best courses. Nearby are The National, which dates to 1911, and Shinnecock Hills, founded in 1891, the celebrity courses that every golfer knows and dreams of playing.
