Michael H. Cosgrove Of Hampton Bays Dies April 16

Michael H. Cosgrove
Michael H. Cosgrove of Hampton Bays died at his home on April 16. He was 64.

Mr. Cosgrove served as a U.S. Navy submariner on the George Washington Carver for four years. He then joined the New York City Police Department, primarily stationed in the Bronx, and retired as a sergeant in 1994 after 24 years of service.

Mr. Cosgrove was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Quogue VFW Post 5350, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and the Hands Aldrich American Legion Post 924.

Mr. Cosgrove is survived by his wife, Janice (nee King); two daughters, Caitlin Yalango and husband Dan, and Colleen Cosgrove of Florida; two stepsons, Robert Niggles and wife Barbara of South Carolina, and Michael Niggles of Wainscott; and two grandchildren, Alexa and Ian Niggles of Washington, D.C.; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his father, William V. Cosgrove of East Quogue; and six siblings, Rita Downs and husband Tom of Hampton Bays, Maureen Porter of Riverhead, William Cosgrove and wife Fran of Spring Valley, Patricia Schrader and husband William of Spring Valley, Dennis Cosgrove and wife Stephanie of New Jersey and Kathleen Young and husband David of Hampton Bays. He was predeceased by his mother, Marion; and his step-mother, Cathryn; and a brother, Brian.

The family received friends at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral 
Home in Hampton Bays on Thursday, April 18. A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays on Friday, April 19. Members of the NYPD Honor Guard served as pallbearers. Mr. Cosgrove’s ashes were to be placed in a niche in Calverton National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 24, at 1 p.m.
