Michael Timothy Finney of Southampton died February 6, 2020, as a result of complications following an aortic dissection on December 31, 2019. He was 59.
Born September 30, 1960, at Southampton Hospital to Lawrence M. Finney Sr. and Cornelia Finney, he lived all his life in Southampton and graduated from Southampton High School. He worked many jobs in and around the village and shared a passion for cars with his father and two brothers, and worked for many years as the manager of Suffolk Foreign Auto.
His love of cars lead him to become a member of the Eastern Motor Racing Association, racing on local tracks like Bridgehampton Race Circuit, and serving on a pit crew at the 24 Hours of Daytona race in Daytona, Florida. His passion to drive took him on cross country road trips to spend time with friends in California and Arizona.
In recent years, He worked as a professional car service driver.
Survivors said he will be remembered by friends and family for his love of music and reading, his sense of humor, and the long hours spent in conversation with friends at Besim’s cigar store on Jobs Lane.
He was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence M. Finney Jr.; and his mother, Cornelia Finney.
He is survived by his father, Lawrence M. Finney Sr.; brother Jonathan Finney and wife Shireen; uncles, Curtis Finney and wife Nancy, and Wendell Mealy and wife Florida; nieces, Jennifer Auraemo, and Ine Rudansky and husband Andrew; grand-niece Rumi Rudansky; and a host of cousins and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to any children’s charity or a charity of choice.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, with a viewing preceding from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church in Bridgehampton.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
