Mihail “Mike” Belesis, formerly of Southampton, died on February 22 in Palm Harbor, Florida. He was 66.
Born in Reixia, Greece, on January 6, 1950, as Mihail Alexandros Belesis to Evanthia and Alexander Belesis, he was one of nine children. He came to the United States at age 19 and worked in the restaurant business. The Candy Kitchen was his first place of employment when he arrived here and he then went on to own and operate many local restaurants, including the Paradise in Sag Harbor. Later in his career, he became passionately involved in real estate development and went on to design and build numerous homes and developments in the Hamptons area. He moved to Florida in 2007.
His wife of 33 years, Mary Belesis, predeceased him in 2005. He is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Berinato of Florida and Martha Belesis of Southampton; three grandchildren, Michaela, Alexander, and Ryan Berinato, all of Florida; and his fiancée, Cynthia Santalone, of Florida. He also has many surviving siblings, nieces and nephews who live in Reixia.
The family received friends on February 28 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Service took place on February 29 at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons. Interment followed at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton.
