A Flanders man was sentenced to 15 years in state prison this week after a jury found him guilty of trying to rape his 9-year-old niece in 2021. The 33-year-old man was not identified by Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney’s office in a release announcing the sentencing in order to protect the identity of the victim. He was tried in state Supreme Court and convicted on January 24 of two violent felonies and a misdemeanor: first-degree attempted rape, first-first degree sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child.
