More Than Grateful

I want to extend my thanks to the Village of Sag Harbor and so many friends and neighbors for honoring my 100th birthday with a parade past my house on Saturday, May 9. It was amazing!

Over a week ago, Brenda Ploger called to tell me that a number of people would be driving by my house to wish me a happy birthday. My four children, their spouses and other family joined me outside my house at the appointed time on a sunny if chilly and windy day, all wearing masks and social distancing.

Sure enough, we first see ambulances and first responders, followed by what appeared to be every Sag Harbor Fire Department apparatus, with horns blowing and firefighters waving.

Then followed a seemingly endless line of Sag Harborites, with horns blowing, people waving and shouting happy birthday wishes. Many of the cars sported signs with hundredth birthday wishes, and some even paused to hand me cards and gifts — even a proclamation plaque from the mayor, Kathleen Mulcahy. My post office box overflowed with birthday cards, too.

The people of Sag Harbor, my hometown, showed that they care, and I am more than grateful. Thank you all!

George Boziwick
