Although it does not rise to the level of a call “to stop the presses,” some additional scrutiny of candidate Moore’s record as mayor of Westhampton Beach is needed. I have enjoyed her husband’s three letters, highlighting almost 33 wonderful years of marriage to the Democratic candidate for supervisor. However, a good wife does not necessarily qualify as a good supervisor.
One of the issues worthy of further examination is the March 18, 2022, settlement between the Village Board and a village police officer, which appeared to violate the Open Meetings Law.
A second concern deals with the proper method to correct property violations. The next town supervisor must tackle the remaining blight of dilapidated buildings in the Flanders/Riverside area of our town. The current Democratic supervisor has failed in eight years to remove some of these longstanding hazards to public safety. In the case of the Village of Westhampton Beach, it is reported that Mayor Moore used village resources to clear an overgrown, littered lot. However, the expense was not added to the property owner’s tax bill. One must wonder what approach she would take in the matter of the Bel-Aire Cove Motel, sitting abandoned for a number of years in Hampton Bays, despite pleas to the current Democratic supervisor.
Local government has the most direct impact on our daily lives, the voters should question if there is something more we should know about her record as village mayor.
