Nancy Ann Heine of Southampton died on June 26. She was 89.

Ms. Heine was born and raised in East Islip. In 1953, she married the “love of her life” Harvey Heine, and moved to Holbrook, according to her family. The couple had four children: Elizabeth, Margaret, William and Thomas. After Mr. Heine’s death in 1971, Ms. Heine worked for many years at the IRS while raising her young children.

Ms. Heine was a devout Episcopalian and loved being a member of St. Mark’s Church in Islip and her time on the vestry, as well as being a choir member, according to family. She was the church administrator for around 15 years, as well as secretary of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. She retired from St. Mark’s in 2000, and moved to Southampton.

She worked for the John Jermain Library in Sag Harbor up until 2016. Ms. Heine was also a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Sag Harbor, where she sang in the choir, served on the vestry, and was the senior warden.

She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her four children; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A small family service was held at St. Mark’s Church in Islip, and she was buried in a family plot in upstate New York.

A memorial celebration will take place in 2021 at Christ Episcopal Church in Sag Harbor.

As Ms. Heine loved all animals, donations to a local animal shelter in her memory would be appreciated by the family.

Southampton Scored $19 Million Grant for Riverside Sewers

Southampton Town has been awarded a $19 million grant to help fund the construction of a sewer system and sewage treatment plant for Riverside — the cornerstone of the town’s decade-long drive for a sweeping revitalization of the blighted hamlet. The town recently won a lawsuit brought by Riverhead Town seeking to stop the Riverside sewer system, which will be able to treat the daily sewage from more than 700 new residences and hundreds of thousands of square feet of new commercial businesses. The first phase of the design and planing for the sewer system is complete and the town ... by Michael Wright

Stop the Hunger

Setting aside politics for a moment, the federal government shutdown, now in its fifth week, is having significant consequences. Expect Delays

Anyone who commutes east and west on the South Fork daily, or who needs goods or services that come by truck — so, really, everyone — endured several days of stress. New York State and Suffolk County officials were able to find a higher gear than normal to repair Sunrise Highway at the Shinneock Canal, which limited the pain, and for that they are to be commended. By now, everyone is aware: Heavy rains last week caused erosion along the bridge abutments on the northeast side of the canal. Two westbound lanes of the highway were closed for days, with ... by Editorial Board
