Nancy N. Lennon of Southampton died peacefully at home on April 12, surrounded by her family. She was 82.

She was born Nancy Scott Newell on January 10, 1943, in Mineola, to Arthur and Mildred Newell.

In her youth, the family moved from Long Island to Wellesley, Massachusetts, where she and her brother made lifelong friends with whom they shared many outdoor adventures. She also cherished the time spent at their family-built cabin in North Conway, New Hampshire, a place where she would create memories with her own family later on.

She attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia, where she was known as “Scottie.” She was a member of The Sweet Tones choral group, as well as the B. Chums, a close-knit social organization that helped raise money for the local community.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in science in 1964, she moved to New York City, where she worked in a research laboratory at the Columbia campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital. It was there that she met her future husband, Dr. Richard Lennon. Many of their first dates took place in the hospital cafeteria during their breaks.

The couple married on January 22, 1966, and in 1970 they moved with their young children to Southampton, where her husband joined his ophthalmology practice. They were quickly embraced by the community, raising their three children alongside a circle of close friends whom they considered family, spending many holidays, vacations, and endless beach days together.

She became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton upon moving to Southampton, where she served as an elder, was part of the Presbyterian Women, sang in the choir, helped run the Christmas Bazaar and, most importantly, fostered her unwavering faith. She found a second home within the church and always enjoyed the fellowship there.

She was a member of the 9 Holers at Southampton Golf Club, an excellent baker and chef, a seasoned traveler, an avid gardener, a talented pianist and singer, a British TV enthusiast, and an animal lover. She will be remembered for her smile, kindness, wit, faith, perseverance, and devotion to caring for her loved ones.

She is survived by her children, Laura Lennon Andrews, Richard Lennon Jr., and Allison Lennon, all of Southampton; her sister-in-law Linda Grayson of Utah; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Lorraine and Dennis Coe of Arizona; many nieces and nephews and several cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Richard; her brother Tucker; her parents; many friends, and all of the four-legged family members who she doted upon.

Wake services took place at Brockett Funeral Home on April 22, with a funeral following on April 23 at The First Presbyterian Church of Southampton.

In lieu of flowers, donations to East End Hospice (eeh.org) or The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (southamptonanimalshelter.com) would be appreciated.
