My Southampton Town taxes just increased by 21 percent. I suppose it could have been worse, since my assessment increased by 27 percent.
It is impossible to believe that I could sell my house for 27 percent more this year than last. Either the methodology/process of assessment (and, therefore, taxation) was flawed in previous years or is flawed this year.
I know that I am not alone in receiving a huge increase this year — I believe these increases have hit Hampton Bays especially hard. Aside from one brief article some time ago, I have seen no explanation for these huge increases.
Can anyone explain?
