Something is brewing in Westhampton Beach, as Caffeine Westhampton is up and running, and eager to serve coffee lovers in a comfy and cozy environment.
The new cafe on Main Street in the village offers outdoor and indoor seating, and allows customers to choose their pick of La Colombe single-origin pour-overs, locally roasted fair-trade blends, and creamy draft lattes on tap, or select from a series of specialty drinks like the Pistachio Latte or the Valrhona Hot Chocolate.
So far, the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, owner and renowned Chef Laurent Tourondel said.
“We officially opened on the 12th, and even on the first day we were already very busy,” he said. “We feel the energy and excitement from our customers, and the community has been very welcoming.”
A native of France, Mr. Tourondel participated in a four-year program at Saint Vincent Ecole de Cuisine in Montluçon, France prior to working for notable chefs in France, Moscow, and New York City. He went on to open BLT Steak, with locations all around the world, BLT Fish New York, and LT Burger in Sag Harbor.
But Mr. Tourondel had an urge to try something new, and open up a small coffee shop — one that is warm and inviting, and offers the highest quality coffee and pastries to early morning risers and mid-day snackers. So when the space in Westhampton Beach became available, Mr. Tourondel jumped on the opportunity and began to plan what he wanted his shop to look like.
“I’m a chef first of all, so food and beverage is my domain,” he said. “I always wanted to open a small coffee shop, Westhampton was the perfect place, and I’m really happy about how it turned out.”
Caffeine Westhampton is more than just its name, as it offers not only caffeine but a selection of teas, smoothies, tasty fresh baked treats, and gourmet sandwiches.
“We’re also doing breakfast foods and sandwiches in the afternoon, and I’m looking to add more options like acai bowls,” Mr. Tourondel said. “The Crunchy Cuban and the Veggie Panini are already some of the favorites. If you’re not into coffee, we’re also offering a selection of smoothies like the Supergreen, the Monkey Date, and the Banana-Ginger-Turmeric.”
Open seven days a week from 5 am to 5 pm, Mr. Tourondel said the shop is perfect for early morning risers looking to start their day with a high quality cup of coffee and what the shop calls a “lite bite.”
“We’re looking to develop even more on the food side, creating more specialty sandwiches and becoming known as both a place with great food and great coffee,” Mr. Tourondel said.
When asked for the best coffee on the menu, Mr. Tourondel responded that the Pistachio Latte is truly one of a kind.
On its first day, the new shop offered a free cup of coffee to its first 100 customers who were excited to get a taste of the new shop in town.
“It’s been a great first start already, and we’re really excited for what’s to come,” Mr. Tourondel said.
