After carefully weighing my options, I’ve decided to vote for Jesse Warren and Palmer Hudson for mayor and trustee, respectively.
I find it very impressive that Palmer Hudson attended Georgetown University and double-majored in computer science and government. From watching the debate [“Watch: Southampton Village 2023 Trustee and Mayoral Debates,” 27east.com, June 1], it became apparent that he is a strong, natural leader and problem-solver in both arenas. I also am impressed that he interned for the town supervisor in Southampton in his teens and has a deep knowledge of how our village government works.
I strongly believe that we should not count Palmer out because of his youth. He has proved himself to be extremely adept at navigating complex issues and, as Paula Angelone wrote in a Letter to the Editor after watching him debate the sitting trustees [“Leadership Matters,” Letters, June 8], “Listening to the candidates actually speak and explain themselves may change your mind … It did for me, in the case of Palmer Hudson.”
Like Jesse Warren, who’s done amazing work for this village, Palmer will definitely get the job done. He can bring what we need: fresh new perspectives and strategies to preserve the safety and beauty of our village in this changing world. I am confident that there is no issue nor challenge that he will not resolve, and, most importantly, he wants your voice to be heard in doing so.
Let’s not revert back to old school cronyism — it will get us nowhere. These are volatile times, and we need strong, intelligent leaders who know what they are doing and have the courage to do it for us.
