Norma Theodora (Carter) Fechtmann died on November 26, 2018.
Born in a small hospital on Quiogue in 1925 to Harold Leroy and Hattie Carter, her father was a lieutenant commander in the United States Coast Guard and so she attended schools in a number of locations, graduating from Southampton High School in 1943. She went on to attend Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, graduating as a dietician.
Survivors describe Ms. Fechtmann as a loving mother and homemaker—raising seven children—and the adored grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of 11. She enjoyed cooking and reading and was fond of saying, “if you can read, you can cook.” She volunteered with the Manorville Historical Society, as well as the Center Moriches Library and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a 60-year member of the United Methodist women’s group, serving as its president many times, inspiring many others to acts of service. She attended the East Moriches United Methodist Church all her life.
Predeceased by her husband, Arthur Fechtmann, she is survived by her children, Bill Raynor and wife Pat, Carol Raynor, Chris Fechtmann, Rick Fechtmann, Leslie Fechtmann, Paul Fechtmann and wife Susan, and Esther (Fechtmann) Neville and husband Desie; her grandchildren, Jason, Lindsay, Kent, Kyra, Kyle, Kirsten, Michael and Stefan; and great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Mason, Mia, Greyson, Kieran, Madison, Emma, Levi, Tegan, Wil and Hunter.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach.
Memorial donations may be made to the East Moriches United Methodist Church or East End Hospice.
