Norman George Price, a lifelong resident of Southampton, died at his home on January 16. He was 91.

He was born on May 7, 1930.

A founding member, he loved his time at Bullhead Yacht Club, whether he was boating or working around the club. In his later years, you could set your watch by his daily afternoon visits to Bullhead. He was also a member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Southampton, where he was a member of the vestry for a time.

He was employed for many years in the propane fuel business. Upon retirement, he and his wife Una Jean loved to travel, including several cruises and yearly trips to coastal Maine. Their all-time favorite trip was their cruise in Alaska. He was an avid reader of both non-fiction and westerns.

He is survived by his son Edward and daughter-in-law Cheryl; granddaughter Lindsey Price Friel and husband Corey; grandson Travis; nieces and nephews Jane Halsey, Mary Gwen Tyda, Susan Swanson, Robert Price, David Price and Karen Price; his sister-in-law Beverly Price. He was predeceased by his parents Winifred and George; siblings Gwen (Price) Halsey, Robert, Harry; his niece Gail (Halsey) Levine; and his beloved wife of 46 years, Una Jean.

Pity the poor horseshoe crab. It is, without question, a survivor almost beyond compare. Consider this: There are fossils of the creature dating back 445 million years. Dinosaurs arrived about 200 million to 250 million years ago — which means the time between us and dinosaurs is equal to the time between dinosaurs and the earliest horseshoe crabs. And they’re still here, nearly unchanged. But they finally may have met their match. The American horseshoe crab has “vulnerable” status, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The population faces a whole series of challenges, including sea-level rise, coupled ... by Editorial Board
