I was gob-smacked when I saw that the house on the corner of Red Creek Road and West Landing Road had been demolished. The beautiful property might be part of Squiretown Park. Thank you, Jay Schneiderman.
If only Supervisor Schneiderman and three of his assistants could have the rest of Southampton’s blight (mostly in Hampton Bays) cleaned up. He said over five years ago, “Now that we own the Bel-Aire Cove Motel property, we will demolish the motel and get rid of the blight.” Instead, he had a fence erected around the old motel to preserve it like it’s a national treasure.
It’s not fair that three of the most blighted properties are in Hampton Bays: Bel-Aire Cove Motel, Hampton Diner, 7Zs Swimming Pool property.
Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara wants Bel-Aire gone and replaced by a park. Way to go, Cyndi!

Lifeguards should be at Ponquogue Beach on all four weekends after Labor Day. Ponquogue Beach is the biggest and busiest beach in the Hamptons. If people know lifeguards are on duty, they will flock there. It’s not safe to swim...

There was no better way for Southampton Village to “celebrate” Labor Day, the holiday honoring the social and economic contributions of working people, than to force Southampton’s working class into gridlock on Hill Street and Windmill Lane. How? By re-imposing...
The recent editorial “Better Than Nothing” [August 28], about the proposed 7-Eleven and gas station at the Riverside traffic circle, suggests that we should “take the win” simply because it removes blight. While it’s true that the site has long...

Are there any Southampton Press readers who might have the option of reregistering to vote in New York City? I just did. So much rides on this election. No matter whom you prefer, you should vote. The public library has...
Recently, the Village of Southampton passed a minimum two-week stay residential rental law [“Southampton Village Board Passes New Seasonal Rental Restrictions,” 27east.com, August 24]. Considering that the traffic congestion here has become a true quality-of-life issue, our mayor and Board...
