There are limits to “If you see something, say something” — and we might have mapped out one outer edge on November 2 in Southampton Village.
Village Police reported last week that someone had called them because they spotted a “suspicious person making odd hand gestures” along Hampton Road. As it turned out, police discovered that the man was doing tai chi meditation while his mother was getting cancer treatments.
Times are weird. But perhaps we all need to take our “high alert” sensors down a bit. Sometimes “odd” is the furthest thing from “dangerous,” and barely “suspicious.” Sometimes, when you see something, it’s an opportunity to ask questions, rather than rushing to bother the police. You might even learn something new.
