Early voting begins this weekend in Suffolk County. There are many conservative-leaning voters and Republican-identified voters who will go to the polls and feel either a desire or an obligation to vote the party ticket. What I am asking of you is that you vote with your conscience and not based on a party affiliation.
Dozens of Republicans who have served in public service, military service and politics are openly supporting Kamala Harris for president. They are doing so at great risk to their own safety and the safety of their families. From Dick Cheney to Geraldo Rivera, they all agree that Donald Trump is too much of a threat to ever lead our country again.
It is not too late, when you are standing in the privacy of your own voting booth, to vote based on your values.
If it’s not in keeping with your values to speak about male genitalia in a public forum, like Donald Trump does, do not vote for him. If it is not in keeping with your values to openly demean individuals and disparage entire populations of people, like Donald Trump does, do not vote for him. If you do not want your sons and grandsons to grow up to be Donald Trump, then don’t vote for him.
I am not just asking that you put country over politics — I am asking you to do something far more personal than that. I am asking you to vote for the person who most reflects your value system. That’s how we choose our friends, that’s how we choose our partners, and that’s how we should choose the president of the United States.
