Not too long ago, a beautiful addition to the Water Mill Community Club’s tennis house grounds went up: a lovely pergola right at the entrance to the courts. A long time in coming, the pergola stands as a memorial to the contributions of the late Tom Maran and the late Dale Stevens to the Water Mill Community Club over many years of service.
The community is invited to attend the dedication of the pergola on Sunday, December 20, at 1 p.m., just before the 2 p.m. start of the Community Club’s Christmas on the Green event.
I don’t know about you, but when I stop at a gas station, it’s usually, well, to fill my car with gas, and occasionally for milk, ice cream or beer. My husband, on the other hand, could probably do the entire week’s worth of grocery shopping at a mini-mart.
That’s why I found an e-mail from Dave Hawke, owner of the Shell gas station in Water Mill that is currently closed because it’s being completely rebuilt, so interesting. He noted that they will begin ordering items for the new store this week, and they are interested in learning about those items that would motivate a woman to enter the store to make purchases. They asked: Is it important to have gallons of milk? (I never buy bigger than a half-gallon, because it stays fresher, in my opinion.) Should they stock organic milk?
Dave and his crew also want to hear what’s important to stock for teenagers and senior citizens. Give them a call at Strong Oil, 726-4701, if you have a strong opinion.
The Clay Art Guild of the Hamptons, based at Celadon Gallery in Water Mill, sent word that it had a very successful year. A variety of fund-raisers—including Empty Bowls, Tea & Cookies, and Potters for Pets—helped the guild, the Water Mill Museum, and the Animal Rescue Fund. And this year, the guild launched its Potters’ Festival, which took place in October on the hamlet green, featuring the work of more than 20 ceramic artists.
The guild looks forward to another big year in 2010 and as a registered non-profit asks that you consider supporting its mission of providing education to students and artists, and to protect and preserve the only community gas kiln on the East End. Fore more information, go to hamptonsclayart.org.
Last week, the Water Mill Community Club held its annual business meeting and elections. All the previous board members were reelected to their posts.
