Allan Witham Peters of Quogue died on Sunday, March 30, at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead following a long illness. He was 79.
Mr. Peters was born in East Orange, New Jersey, and graduated from the Taft School in 1947 and Yale University in 1951. At Yale he was a member of the Wolfshead Society and was a varsity football player and star punter.
He worked for Bankers Trust in New York City, then spent the rest of his career at Citibank, retiring as a first vice president.
Mr. Peters lived in Englewood, New Jersey, and raised his family there. After his retirement, he moved to Quogue, where he had spent his summers since the age of 16.
He was an avid tennis and paddle ?tennis player, and served on the board of the American Platform Tennis ?Association, on the board of governors of the Quogue Field Club, and as the president of the Englewood ?Field Club. He was an active in the Presbyterian Church, serving on the Session, and was a loyal Yale alumnus and a member of an informal class council who attended a number of reunions.
In addition to his wife, Ruth Peters, he is survived by a son, Douglas Peters; a daughter, Constance Jones; and four grandchildren, Elsa and Eric Peters and Sarah and Matthew Jones.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Lyman Peters.
Interment will be private, and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
