With Jesse Warren’s stunning reelection results, it is time to get serious about cleaning up Lake Agawam. Band-Aid approaches do not work. Drainage for most of the village, as far north as Burger King, flows into the lake.
The two north drains must be connected to the south outflow pipe. That pipe must be extended into the ocean and left open (with a one-way valve), 24/7. Other measures are necessary, but unless this flow is diverted into the ocean, nothing else will work.
There is ample precedent at Hook Pond in East Hampton, where this has already been done.
