A recent letter by Dick Sheehan [“Supreme Hubris,” Letters, March 7] laments Donald Trump for stacking the Supreme Court “with three extreme right-wing members” whose decisions threaten our democracy and implies an existential threat to democratic rule of law.

According to Mr. Sheehan, the extreme members of the GOP refused to give the Obama nominee to the Supreme Court a hearing. This nominee, Merrick Garland, is the same man who, as our attorney general, instructed the FBI to be on the lookout for angry parents at school board meetings who had the temerity to voice an interest in their children’s education.

In October 2021, Garland sent a notice to the FBI directing it to coordinate with the nation’s 14,000 school districts in order to have a law enforcement presence at these meetings. The memo included the comparison to “domestic terrorists” for the more outspoken parents.

What could possibly go wrong with such a declaration? Many videos of outspoken parents being dragged out of school board meetings by law enforcement officials soon followed.

Now, imagine this man sitting on the bench.

This coming election year, President Joe Biden is declaring this a race to preserve democracy and rule of law. The irony here is risible but apparently utterly lost on the Democrats, as they do everything in their power to disqualify their leading opponent in the election through lawfare. The Democratic National Committee and Democrats in the highest places have weaponized their influence over the administrative bureaucracy throughout all levels of our government.

Eight years ago, the continuous harassment and illicit government efforts were begun to neutralize Donald Trump when the Justice Department and the FBI worked hand in hand to obtain FISA warrants in order to surveil the leading opponent to Hillary Clinton. Emails were altered and forged by FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith to obtain these warrants. Clinesmith received what amounted to a slap on the wrist for his perfidy. The entire Russian collusion hoax was bought and paid for by the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Clearly the rule of law has its exceptions for the Democrats. Look no further than Hunter Biden’s laptop for proof of that.

Mr. Sheehan is concerned about right-wing extremists and their threat to our democratic principles, as we rapidly descend to the depths of a banana republic through the very actions of his own political party. The aforementioned examples of their hypocrisy are treated as fake news and falsehoods. To assure compliance to their agenda, this administration has censored information concerning COVID policy, treatment and effectiveness, among other disputed initiatives, as clearly demonstrated in the Twitter files released by Elon Musk.

In true Orwellian fashion, Biden has instituted his own Ministry of Truth with the Disinformation Governance Board.
