Oscar 'Arkie' Friedensohn Of Hampton Bays Dies

Oscar “Arkie” Friedensohn of Hampton Bays and West Palm Beach, Florida, died on July 25, 2017, with his wife of 71 years, Adele, at his side.

Mr. Friedensohn was born in 1924. The one-time City College of New York football player was tackled by several illnesses and completed his journey with dignity and grace, according to survivors. Mr. Friedensohn was a man of many components. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, in-law, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He was a decorated World War II combat-wounded veteran whose late life passion was to stand testament, through his writings, to the many men with whom he fought and who died in battle. His articles have appeared in Army and World War II publications, as well as many regional and local newspapers. Survivors described him as a social worker and boss; writer and teacher; softball player and card shark; and award winner for his work at the Hampton Bays Senior Center.

He is survived by wife Adele (Smoke); four children, Carolyn F. Scanlan and husband Paul, Jane Friedensohn and husband Rick Horsch, Peter Friedensohn and wife Patricia Hopkins, and David Friedensohn; grandchildren, Molly Breiner and husband Andy, Caitlin Sachs and husband Kevin, Drew Scanlan, Alyson Friedensohn, Sam Friedensohn, Blair Friedensohn and Ned Scanlan; and two great-grandchildren, Robby and Cody Breiner.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH — Mark Green, 44, of Westhampton Beach, was arrested by Westhampton Beach Village Police on November 21 and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor.
