Recent U.S. Labor Department monthly economic reports have been pleasant surprises. Last month, our nation’s economy added 266,000 jobs to our country’s workforce. The estimate had been 180,000. In addition, the Labor Department revised the September and October 2019 job increase by 75,000.
The nation’s unemployment rate has dropped to 3.5 percent, or full employment by the department’s standards. The year-over-year average wage has increased by 3.1 percent. Even the economic growth by President Reagan, back in the 1980s, doesn’t match President Trump’s outstanding success.
What’s happening to our economy reminds me of a morale-lifting song from the Great Depression of the 1930s: “Happy Days are Here Again!”
