Over 1,500 runners descended upon Southampton Village for the 13th annual Hamptons Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday morning at the Southampton Intermediate School, and they were meet with an abundance of sunshine and slightly warm temperatures for a late September race day.
Owen Bradley, 40, of Birmingham, Alabama, won the marathon in 2:52:29, completing the 26.2-mile race with a mile pace of 6:35. Drew Bly, 31, of New York City, didn't finish too far behind Bradley in 2:53:43, with Alexander Egan, 35, also of New York City crossing the finish line in 2:57:03. Jacob Cooper, 45, of Brooklyn, finished fourth overall in 3:07:22, and this year's female champion, Danya Perry, 48, of New York City, finished fifth overall in 3:09:12. Cara Rabin, 34, of New York City finished second among women (ninth overall) in 3:25:04, followed by Shannon Ahern, 23, of New York City in 3:25:26 (11th overall); Yeji Cha-Beach, 33, of Brooklyn in 3:30:32 (18th overall); Melissa Frade, 42, of Nesconset in 3:38:41 (22nd overall); and Sara Kitchen, 31, of New York City in 3:40:12 (23rd overall).
Erik Reitinger, 36, of Brooklyn, after placing second in the half marathon last year, returned to win this year's race in 1:14:47. Sean Mahon, 33, of Merrick placed second overall in the 13.1-mile race in 1:15:02. Both Reitinger and Mahon finished with mile paces under six minutes. Danny Elphinston, 30, of New York City, placed third overall in 1:19:14. He was followed by Sergio Avramenko, 34, of Southampton, who finished in 1:19:54, and Benjamin Fleischman, 31, of New York City, who rounded out the top five half marathon finishers in 1:21:54.
Denali Tietjen, 24, originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, but now calls Brooklyn home, was this year's female champion of the half, ninth overall, in 1:25:35. Corinne Fitzgerald, 27, of New York City finished second among women (11th overall) in 1:26:21; Beth Reed, 35, of New York City finished third (14th overall) in 1:27:29; Liz Fernandez, 40, of Rockville Centre, finished fourth (19th overall) in 1:28:55; and Lynn Strong, 35, of Cold Spring finished fifth (27th overall) in 1:30:29.
Matthew Garosa, 15, of Woodbury won the out-and-back 5K in 19:56 and he was followed by the female champion of the 3.1-mile race, Alychia Buchan, 39, of Holmdel, New Jersey, in 20:41.
