In honor of Veterans Day, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a package of bills to enhance services and bolster protections for veterans, including legislation to provide military voters the opportunity to vote in school district elections. New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. was a prime sponsor of two of the bills. Springs School Last week, Ms. Amicucci’s seventh grade math classes celebrated “Mathgiving,” a food feast where students act as waiters and diners in a mock restaurant and have to calculate their bills including tax and tip. Also for Thanksgiving, kindergartners will perform the song and dance, “Albuquerque Turkey,” in front of parents and enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving meal of mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing, cornbread, and apple and pumpkin pie. School will be closed next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for Thanksgiving break.

Julio Xajapsinai, 23, of Hampton Bays was arrested on Wednesday, November 6, at 2:18 a.m. by Southampton Town Police and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, as well as drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway among other various charges including driving with obstructed view and operating a vehicle without an inspection certificate. Police said they witnessed Mr. Xajapsinai driving on Old Quogue Road in Riverside very slowly and noticed objects hanging from his rearview mirror, obstructing his view.
