There are some who believe that Donald Trump’s approval numbers in the polls have increased as a result of his indictments. I contend that it is far more likely that Republicans who are frantically searching for a candidate they feel will finally lead them to winning an election look at the group of Republicans who are running for president and feel that Trump is the only person who could potentially win against Joe Biden.
Sadly, no moderate Republicans with any kind of standing or gravitas have stepped up to run for president. The group is uninspiring at best. Ron DeSantis is unlikable, divisive and doesn’t have a chance of winning in the general election, and he’s the only one who’s getting any kind of momentum in the polls. These candidates are a clear example of how the Republican Party has lost its way.
So many Republicans feel they have no choice but to vote for Trump if they want to win in 2024. Are they appalled that he has been indicted four times? Who knows. But the Republican Party has proven that winning for them is more important than anything. “Party over country” has again prevailed in the Republican Party, as evidenced by Trump’s popularity.
So each time you go to the polls over the next few years, remember that “party over country” caused January 6, caused Trump to commit multiple crimes while in office and yet not be voted out with impeachment, caused choices of extremely partisan Supreme Court justices, eliminated President Barack Obama’s ability to choose a Supreme Court justice when there was a vacancy, and on and on.
You need to ask yourself if this Republican Party should be rewarded with your votes and assume any position of power in our country in the near future.
