Patricia Ann Bennett of Hampton Bays died at Peconic Bay Medical Center on December 4, 2019, of cancer. She was 71.
Ms. Bennett, who preferred to be called Patty, was born on May 18, 1948, in Southampton, to Joseph T. and Irene (Mott) Bennett of Southampton. The second-eldest of eight children, she attended Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary School of Southampton and graduated from Mercy High School in 1966. She married David P. Bozuhoski of Riverhead in 1966, where they lived until 1972, when they moved into the Hampton Bays home where she resided until her death.
After separation from her husband, she took on the role of single-mom, working multiple jobs and attending college classes at night, while raising her three sons. In 1986, she and her sister, Mary, formed the Southampton Village-based Bennett Interiors; an interior design firm located for a time on Jobs Lane in Southampton. She retired from the business in 2009.
A lifelong artist, Ms. Bennett earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts, with honors, from Long Island University in the spring of 1999, and was a member and one-time president of the Southampton Artists Association. She was diagnosed with, and won her first battle with breast cancer in 2001, and continued painting afterward until declining health prevented her from doing so.
Ms. Bennett was predeceased by her parents; husband “Buzzy”; her sister, Sheila M. Bennett; brother Thomas G. Bennett. She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Margaret “Peggy” and Samuel Mezynieski of East Quogue, Sharon E. and Gary Catena of Hampton Bays, Joseph Bennett Jr. of Vermont, Mary E. (Bennett) Behringer of Hampton Bays, surviving spouse of Tim Behringer, Debbie Bennett of East Quogue, surviving spouse of Thomas G. Bennett, and William J. and Diane Bennett of Southampton; her children, David P. and Dawn Bozuhoski Jr. of Riverhead, Daniel J. Bozuhoski, Dennis J. Bozuhoski and Kristen Caputo, all of Hampton Bays; and her four grandchildren.
Per her wishes, cremation will be followed by interment at Southampton Cemetery and memorial for family and friends after the first of the year.
