Patrick J. Fenton of Westhampton died on September 28. He was 90.
Born in Killaloe, Ireland, he arrived in the United States at age 27. He went on to become a successful accountant working for The Ford Foundation and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
At age 50, he gave up his career in accounting; earned a master’s degree in education and became a teacher at Our Lady of Victory elementary school in Floral Park. He switched careers, his family said, because over the years, he had the pleasure of helping his two daughters with their homework and enjoyed every moment of it.
After his retirement from teaching, the family moved to Westhampton and bought a house on an acre of land so that he could use all the farming skills he learned as a young man in Ireland.
He is survived by his wife Catherine; children MaryEllen and Siobhan; and his siblings, Michael, Jim, Mary, and Eileen of Killaloe, Ireland.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 2, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home, located at 60 Mill Road, Westhampton Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Westhampton Beach. A private cremation will follow.
