Southampton native Paul Joseph Liehr died on September 5 in Grass Valley, California. He was 88.

Born Decmeber 6, 1920, in Sag Harbor, to Florence M. and Joseph H. Liehr, he was a graduate of Southampton High School and attended Middlebury College in Vermont, where he was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

He served with the U.S. Army 9th Airforce in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in the Airforce Reserve. He later worked as a stock broker with Merrill Lynch in Palo Alto, California.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Liehr of California; a daughter, Susan Stewart of California; a brother, Kenneth Liehr and his wife Nancy of Delaware; three grandchildren, Michael Scott Pinochi, Tara Pinochi Atwal, and Joseph Liehr; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Pinochi and Amaia Atwal; two nephews, Paul and James Liehr; and a daughter-in-law, Kim Young Liehr. He was predeceased by a son, Paul Kevin Liehr.

Graveside services will be held in California, at a date to be determined. Mr. Liehr’s remains will rest beside his son in the Veterans Cemetery by the Golden Gate Bridge.
