Peter Dobies of Southampton died on July 30 at the age of 86.
Born on January 6, 1922, in Strzegowo, Poland, to Francis and Veronica Pontus Dobies, he moved to Bridgehampton in 1951, and, a year later, to Southampton. He worked as a greenskeeper at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton for several years and then as a caretaker at a private Southampton estate for more than 30 years. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening and carpentry.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Antonina Balcerzyk Dobies of Southampton; three daughters and their spouses, Veronica and Stephen McClain of Southampton, Regina and Fred Bertrand of Water Mill, and Christine and Robert N. Davis of Virginia; three granddaughters, Lisa Bertrand of Southampton, Pamela Davis and her husband Chuck Pruitt of Virginia, and Patricia and her husband Kenny Sites of Virginia; two grandsons, Michael McClain and his wife Andrea Kolber of Buffalo and Fred P. Bertrand of Maryland; and three great-grandchildren, Jessica Pruitt, Elizabeth Sites and Joshua Sites.
The family received visitors on August 3 at O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. Funeral services, officiated by Father Chris of Our Lady of Poland Church, followed at Sacred Hearts Church in Southampton; interment was at the church cemetery.
