The owner of the popular Italian restaurant Baby Moon in Westhampton Beach, Peter Gambino, died on Monday night at the Peconic Bay Medical Center of lung cancer. He was 70.
Mr. Gambino was born on August 1, 1942, in the Sicilian Province of Palermo to Francesco and Maria Gambino. In 1969, he moved to the East End and opened Baby Moon restaurant one year later.
Together with his brother, John Gambino, he worked to share his love of good Italian food.
He is survived by his wife, Salvatrice; and three daughters, Marina, Paula, and Jackie; and eight grandchildren, Terrence, Ciro, Ashley, Bruno, Peter, Xavian, Davon and Rosemari.
Visitation for Mr. Gambino was held on Wednesday night, May 1, and will continue on Thursday, May 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 3, at 10 a.m. at the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts Roman Catholic Church in Southampton.
